Amazon’s artificially intelligent virtual assistant Alexa has long been a household name. From playing music to waking people up from a good night’s sleep, Alexa can pretty much help with anything.

And now it’s going to help you cope with COVID-19 lockdowns!

With many of us being forced to sit at home during probably the worst pandemic since 1918’s Spanish Flu, we can pretty much agree that “I don’t have the time” is no longer an excuse for not getting things done. However, it seems many people are being less productive while they are indoors. Being inside for a long time can make you lose track of time, and losing track of time will hinder getting your everyday tasks done. Here’s how Alexa can help you with that:

Ring, ring! Time to wake up!

When we’re staying inside, our body clocks get thrown off balance and most of us tend to sleep in. You can ask Alexa to wake you up on your usual time (OK, OK, maybe an hour late!) so you can catch up with daily tasks. That brings us to our second point:

Eat!

Our sleeping hours are not the only things being disrupted. Our bodies are used to being fed and energized at specific hours during the day and a lockdown can throw those hours off. Alexa can help remind you that it’s time to eat or have a snack. It’s important to stay energized these days! Also, you can ask Alexa to remind you to drink water, because that is also a huge factor in your body staying healthy.

Pandemic Panic:

A lot of people, especially hypochondriacs, tend to self-diagnose themselves when they feel a bit under the weather. Especially nowadays. There are hundreds of videos and blogs on the internet these days who post information, and often misinformation, about the disease and its symptoms. This can be terribly incorrect and in terms of self-diagnosis, it can be even worse. Alexa has teamed up with the CDC to bring you correct information regarding COVID-19, and what to do if you think you might be a carrier. All you need to do is ask this question: “Alexa, what do I do if I think I have coronavirus/COVID-19?” Spanish speaking individuals can ask “Alexa, qué puedo hacer si pienso que tengo coronavirus?”

Clean up!

Maintaining correct personal hygiene during times like these is paramount, and Alexa will gladly schedule a housecleaning routine for you to follow, reminding you every day to clean your surroundings.

There’s more!

While Alexa can help you with your COVID-19 worries, it can help you maintain that all-important connective tissue with friends and family. Ask Alexa to dial anyone’s number and have a conversation or two! We’re practicing physical distancing, but that doesn’t mean we have to stay away from connectivity!  You can also use Alexa for keeping track with everyday news and getting information about a wide variety of subjects. Don’t fixate just on COVID-19! There’s a bigger world out there!
